KOTA KINABALU – A multi-party state government is still considered the best administrative system for a multiracial state like Sabah, says Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili.
The Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) acting president explained that a one-party system, even though its members were of various cultures and beliefs, could not work as such a party would only run the government based on whatever ideology it was preaching.
“We (people) are multiracial here (in Sabah) that cannot be covered by a single multiracial party.
“The best framework is still Barisan Nasional, where everybody is being represented (in the government),” he told reporters when met at the PBS Aidilfitri open house, here, today.
Ongkili was asked to comment on Parti Warisan Sabah’s intention to instal a singular-party government, should it win the next general election, to eliminate a power struggle among component parties of a coalition government.
“Tell them (Parti Warisan Sabah) to win the election first,” he said. – BERNAMA
