PUTRAJAYA – Deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today witnessed the handing over of sports equipment and surau items from Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS) foundation to 228 schools affected by floods in Kelantan.
The contribution worth RM424,563 was handed over by YSS president Datuk Zuraidah Atan to the secretary-general of the Education Ministry Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamed at the ministry here.
The contribution was then handed over to the Kelantan State Education director Hussain Awang.
From the total, 165 schools received equipments for sports like football, net ball, hand ball, sepak takraw as well as ping-pong tables, badminton rackets and shuttle cocks, while 65 schools received surau items such as prayer garments, Qurans, and prayer mats.
The contribution was an extension of the foundation’s post-flood mission to clean and restore, which was launched in 19 schools in Kelantan involving 5,000 volunteers.
According to a media statement by YSS, they hoped the contribution would help the schools create a more conducive learning environment for students.
The state’s Education Department had identified 31 schools in several districts which were affected by the floods that struck at the end of last year. – BERNAMA
