GERIK – Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today began his visit to flood victims in Perak by looking at the flood situation in the remote Orang Asli settlement of Pos Kemar, Temengor, near here.

Muhyiddin, who came in a helicopter, arrived at a field called Padang Astaka at the Orang Asli Development Department grounds in Kampung Akai, Pos Kemar, at 10.15am.

He exchanged greetings and talked to the Orang Asli residents from Kampung Akai and other surrounding villages who had gathered at the field for his arrival.

These villagers have been cut off from the land route due to damaged roads, landslides and collapsed bridges caused by the flood that hit the area.

Muhyiddin, accompanied by Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul, Kadir spent an hour looking at the situation there, besides visiting residents of a number of villages in the area.

He also viewed two bridges which had collapsed, namely Sungai Temengor Bridge between Kampung Jarau Baru and Kampung Jarau Lama and Lengweng Bridge between Kampung Kantong and Kampung Jarau Baru.

Pos Kemar has 15 villages including Kampung Bal, Kampung Senangit, Kampung Bada, Kampung Jarau Lama, Kampung Jarau Baru, Kampung Katong and Kampung Rantau, settled by Orang Asli from the Temiang tribe.

These villages have a total population of more than 4,000 residents from 975 families.

As the villagers have been cut off from the land route, they have to travel by boats instead to reach Gerik town which takes about one hour.

Muhyiddin then flew in the helicopter to visit another Orang Asli village at the Dala Resettlement Scheme in Kenering, Lenggong.

He then visited flood victims at the relief centre in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Lambor Kiri in Bota, near Parit before returning to Kuala Lumpur. – BERNAMA
