MUAR – Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said today he will not step down as UMNO deputy president because he has not violated the party constitution.
“I will not resign (as the UMNO deputy president) because I have done no wrong in the party,” he said.
“I am not a threat to the country. I have not said anything contrary to the party constitution. Show proof if I have done so,” he said when opening the
Pagoh UMNO Division delegates meetings of Wanita UMNO, UMNO Youth and Puteri UMNO at the Pagoh Sports Complex here.
Muhyiddin’s wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman, Pagoh UMNO Division deputy chief Ismail Mohamed, Pagoh UMNO Division Wanita chief Senator Datuk Noriah Mahat, Pagoh UMNO Division Youth chief Zaid Abdul Rahman and Pagoh UMNO Division Puteri chief Rohaizah Ahmad were also present at the event.
Yesterday, Selangor Sungai Besar UMNO Division chief Datuk Jamal Yunus had reportedly asked Muhyiddin to resign as the UMNO deputy president. Muhyiddin was dropped as the deputy prime minister in a Cabinet reshuffle on July 28.
Muhyiddin, who is the Pagoh UMNO Division chief, expressed disappointment that some UMNO divisions had withdrawn their invitation to him to open their delegates meeting.
He said he had no intention of toppling the government and, as such, he should not be regarded as a threat to any party and the country.
He also asked all quarters to give room to the special task force investigating the 1Malaysia Development Berhad issue.
Muhyiddin also expressed his appreciation to all those who had expressed their support for him. – BERNAMA
