KUALA LUMPUR – Up and coming Selangor footballer Muhammad Syahmi Safari has made French striker Antoine Griezmann a reference point in his quest to become the best footballer in the future.
Muhammad Syahmi, 19, who scored twice to help Selangor beat T-Team 4-2 in their Super League match last night said he admired Griezmann’s ball control and ability to deliver accurate passes.
In the match at the Selayang Stadium, Muhammad Syahmi also emulated the Atletico Madrid player’s goal celebration after netting his first goal in the 53rd minute.
“Although he (Griezmann) is a striker, I really admire his passing and ball control technique, in addition to his ability to make crucial decisions in a match,” he told reporters after the match.
Meanwhile, Selangor head coach P. Maniam praised Muhammad Syahmi for his performance but also urged the latter to now concentrate on the remaining league fixtures as well as the Malaysia Cup, which begins next Tuesday.
“I am very happy that at only 19, his contribution so far has been amazing. We can see that the attack on the right hand side is very effective with some interesting crosses,” he said.
The victory saw Selangor finally pick up three points after two draws and two defeats, to sit in fifth place with 20 points. – BERNAMA
