BENTONG: The landslide at Km 52.4 Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway yesterday was believed to have been caused by the ‘activity’ taking place outside Anih Berhad’s maintenance area.
Anih Berhad president and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Azmil Khalid garbage, logs, rocks and debris swept away during the incident near the Hutan Lipur Lentang proved that the ‘activity’ had caused muddy water to overflow off the hill.
“I would like to stress that this was not a landslide incident as reported in the newspapers, social media like Facebook and Twitter, it was actually a mudslide incident.
“That was why we saw rocks, garbage and old logs being washed away in the waterfall-like mudslide yesterday.
“We don’t want to speculate, but we believe that it was caused by the ‘activity’ taking place outside our maintenance area. Either the ‘activity’ was approved or not, that is not in our knowledge,” he told reporters, but refused to explain further about the ‘activity’.
Azmil said Anih Berhad had deployed its team to investigate the actual cause of the incident and to discuss with the relevant authorities about efforts to prevent recurrence.
He was met after monitoring the ongoing cleaning work at the site. Also present was Anih Berhad director Nik Fauzi TS Nik Hussein.
“If the workers can work around the clock, we expect the cleaning work to be completed in two days. What matters most is safety of road users.
As at 1.30 pm, the area was still closed to all traffic.
