MELAKA – Melaka United (MU) today introduced eight new faces, including three foreign imports, to beef up the squad before the second round of the M-League, especially the Super League, resumes next month.
MU team manager Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi said the three foreign imports are Felipe De Almeida Souza from Brazil from Oeste FC, former FK Pelister defender from Macedonia, Jasmin Mecinovic and former Negeri Sembilan striker Marko Simic from Croatia.
Mohd Yusoff said other new faces in the list are Fandi Othman, Nicholas Ryan Swirad, Azinee Taib from Johor Darul Ta’zim II, S.Sivanesan from PKNS FC and Nur Hakim Isa from Perak.
“After a poor run of results in the Super League at the end of the first round, the MU management had discussed the future of the team with MU president Datuk Seri Idris Haron who is also the Melaka chief minister and he gave the greenlight to carry out the necessary changes,” he said.
Mohd Yusof said despite financial constraints, MU had to fork out between RM1.5 million and RM2 million for the new players.
He added that a decision on head coach Eric Williams’ status would be made tomorrow. – BERNAMA
