TAIPING – The Taiping Municipal Council (MPT) expects the number of visitors to the Taiping Zoo and Night Safari to increase next year in line with the efforts to provide better comfort to the visitors.
The Head of the Tourism Education and Publicity Division of MPT, Hanim Ramly said the Council would focus on promoting the tourist destination to visitors, particularly the East Coast and northern part of the state who were seen to frequently visit the town.
She said although the MPT targeted the number of visitors to the zoo to be 700,000 this year, the figure had dropped to between 100,000 and 150,000 visitors.
“We find that the drop in the number of visitors was due to several diseases such as the bird flu which broke out in the country earlier which resulted in the number of visitors dropping,” she told Bernama, here today.
Hanim said the construction of 12 display cages worth RM3 million which was an open cage concept that was being upgraded at the zoo, was expected to be able to woo more tourists next year.
In addition, the zoo was also intensifying efforts to market and promote the zoo so that tourists could see one of the oldest zoos in the country. – BERNAMA
