CAMERON HIGHLANDS – Villagers staying along the river banks of Sungai Bertam and Ringlet will have to move out if they want to avoid mudfloods and flashflood in the future.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said the government was willing to relocate them to homes under the Perumahan Rakyat 1Malaysia (PR1MA) programme.
“But the villagers refused to leave as they said they are TOL holders,” he said here today.
Speaking to reporters after presenting aid to victims of the recent flood, Palanivel, who is also Cameron Highlands MP, admitted the government cannot force the villagers to relocate.
“We can only encourage them to move,” he said. – NST Online
