KUALA LUMPUR – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said today said the motion referring Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar to the Rights and Privileges Committee came from the government and not from her.
The motion debated on and approved by the Dewan Rakyat on Dec 3 last year was brought by the government, she said in a statement.
Azalina said Nurul Izzah, who is a PKR vice-president, should use the opportunity of her meeting with the committee to provide an explanation instead of politicising the matter.
Nurul Izzah was referred to the committee after the circulation of a photograph where she was seen with Jacel, the daughter of Jamalul Kiram III who had allegedly ordered the armed intrusion of Lahad Datu, Sabah, in 2013.
A news portal report had quoted Nurul Izzah as having questioned whether she would get a fair hearing because Azalina was also a member of the committee.
Azalina, who is the MP for Pengerang, said she was bound by Standing Order 85 whereby she could not comment on any matter still under the consideration of the committee, and so was Nurul Izzah. – BERNAMA
