SEREMBAN: Lolanopita Sadi, 40, the mother of a teenager with disability found in deplorable conditions in Nilai on June, pleaded guilty to neglecting and leaving her son unattended in the Sessions Court here, just now.
She previously made a not guilty plea when charged in the same court on June 27, but changed her plea after the charge was read to her again today before Judge Kamarudin Kamsun.
On the first charge, she was charged under Section 33 (1) (a) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect and could be fined up to RM20,000 or jailed up to 10 years or both, if convicted.
She was also charged under Section 33 (c) of the same act of leaving her son unattended and can be fined up to RM5,000 or two years imprisonment or both, if convicted.
Both offenses were committed in Taman Semarak, Nilai, between January and June 21 this year.
Kamarudin set November 17 as the date for the mitigation submission of an appeal by the defence and for the sentencing.
Prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh and Mohd Farid Mohd Mokhtar, while the accused was represented by counsel Hanif Hassan.
Muhammad Firdaus Dullah, 15, were found in deplorable conditions in a flat by Immigration Department enforcers on June 21, with his body malnourished, while the condition of the room was very dirty and filled with dried faeces.-NST
