KUANTAN – A mother of three was among 37 suspected drug addicts nabbed by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) in ‘Op Cegah Perdana’ conducted in the Bukit Kuantan Felda scheme area, here, today.
Kuantan district AADK chief, Nor Haffiza Ibrahim said the 33-year-old woman was the sole female detained in the operation which started as early as 4 am.
“Prior to this, we had picked up and sent the woman’s husband to the Cure & Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC). Less than two months later, his wife was detained,” she told reporters after the operation today.
She said the 36 men, aged 29 to 53 years, arrested included three drug addicts who had flouted the conditions of their release from rehabilitation, in the operation involving 30 AADK personnel.
“The 53-year-old man detained is believed to be hooked on drugs for over 20 years, but has never been caught before over drugs,” she added.
Meanwhile, in ALOR SETAR, the Kedah Immigration Department detained 18 foreign nationals including five women in ‘Op Ikrar’ conducted in several locations here, yesterday and today.
Its enforcement chief, Mohd Shahrir Khalid said all the foreign nationals, aged 17 to 40, were arrested in raids between at 8.30 pm yesterday and 1.45 am today, at a hotel, six residential premises and a restaurant.
“Numerous offences were recorded, including not having valid travel documents, overstaying and working illegally,” he said in a statement.
All were detained in the Immigration lock-up at the Home Ministry Building for investigation and further action before being sent to the Immigration detention depot in Belantik, Sik, he added. – BERNAMA
