JEMPOL – The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) intends to create a ‘space city’ in the country to advance research into the field of aerospace, in the next five years.
Its deputy minister Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah said the ministry had already identified the area to be used for the purpose.
“The place is already available, which in terms of its facilities, population density, latitude position, is very suitable for placing rockets, so there will be a space city there.
“In this city later we will have research centres that will focus on space education and training.
“We also want to make a rocket launch pad similar to the one at the Guiana Space Centre, French Guiana, South America, to allow those in Southeast Asian region to use the facility for space research,” he told reporters after officiating the 58-hour continuous yassin recital for the nation event in MRSM Serting here today. – BERNAMA
