KUALA KANGSAR – Perak suffered damages and destructions in excess of RM300 million due to the recent floods, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
He said the losses were due to damage caused to infrastructure and public assets (RM269,517,204), homes and individual-owned assets (RM63,335,304) and loss of income (RM46,648,452).
“A total of 3,591 houses were damaged, incurring a loss of RM11,651,991, in the state. They were in Kuala Kangsar district (94), Hulu Perak (22), Perak Tengah (3,453) and Hilir Perak (22).
He said this after handing over compassionate aid of RM1,000 each to 515 families who were affected by the floods in the districts of Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Siput here, today.
On the giving of aid to the flood victims, Zambry said the Perak National Security Council (MKN) was still updating the list of families who qualified as there were a number of difficulties including relating to house addresses of recipients.
“A list of more than 5,000 recipients has been sent but there are some technical problems such as the absence of the numbers for the houses and those riverside houses affected by floods which were not registered. As such, we are still updating the list,” he said.
Flood victims who have yet to receive any aid are urged to be patient as it would be given soon. – BERNAMA
