KUALA LUMPUR – The number of evacuees in flood-hit Teluk Intan in Perak rose to 336 as at 6 pm Wednesday, up from 325 in the morning, according to the Department of Civil Defence.
Its officer for Hilir Perak, Mohd Fazly Mohamad Zawawi, said the evacuees were 99 families from four areas, namely Lorong Mesra in Batu 7; Lorong Kedah in Batu 8; Lorong Setia in Batu 11 and Kampung Batu 9.
They are being housed at the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Jong.
“Heavy rain fell this evening and Sungai Bidor burst its banks,” he told BERNAMA.
The recent floods are the second to strike Changkat Jong in two weeks, with Sungai Bidor bursting its banks.
On Nov 14, fifty-six people from 16 families in Lorong Mesra were evacuated when the river overflowed following heavy rain.
They returned to their homes four days later after the floodwaters receded.
In TERENGGANU, the number of evacuees remained the same, at 234, as in the morning.
The Terengganu National Security Council portal reported that they were being housed at the relief centre at SK Kompleks Gong Badak. – BERNAMA
