KUALA LUMPUR – The public are advised to stop all their outdoor activities immediately when it starts to rain during this monsoon transition period.
Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) director-general Datuk Che Gayah Ismail said the transition period of the monsoons would cause afternoon thunderstorm, which was danger to life and property.
“The monsoon transition period brings along strong thunderstorm and heavy downpour. Although it will only last between half and three hours, it can be dangerous for those doing outdoor activities.
“So, when it starts to rain and when the sky turns dark, please stop all outdoor activities and avoid being in an open field,” she told Bernama.
She said the monsoon transition period in Malaysia began with the end of the Southwest Monsoon (drier weather), from end of September to middle of November, after which the country would experience the Northeast Monsoon (rainy season) until around March next year. – Bernama
