KUALA LUMPUR – The monorail services encountered a glitch, causing it to catch fire at the Titiwangsa station at about 8.05am today.
Sentul Fire and Rescue Station chief Zahari Mohamad said the department received a distress call at 8.52am.
“Twenty-two firemen from Titiwangsa, Sentul and Hang Tuah fire station were deployed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we saw thick smokes coming from the lower part of the train,” he said.
Zahari said by the time firemen arrived, there were no passengers in the train as the train operator had earlier evacuated them.
He said firemen managed to put out fire after about 30 minutes.
A spokesperson for Rapid Rail Monorail Line confirmed the incident, adding that one of rubber tyres for a four-car train caught fire. No passengers were injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a two-car train was stranded between the Imbi and Bukit Bintang stations due to technical problem. A rescue train was dispatched to push the stranded train to Imbi station and to rescue the passengers.
Rapid Rail is currently investigation both incidents. – NST
