KUALA LUMPUR – Former Selangor and national player Mohd Nidzam Jamil has been appointed as the new head coach of AirAsia All Stars FC who are making their debut in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) League this season.
The club, said Mohd Nidzam, would work closely with another former international, G. Torairaju, the club’s technical director.
“Mohd Nidzam brings with him drive, determination and technical know-how of the modern game which helped him lead SPA Putrajaya FC to the FAM League title in 2012 and also to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup the same year,” the club said in a Facebook posting yesterday.
When contacted by Bernama, Mohd Nidzam said he was determined to help AirAsia All Stars FC make a strong challenge against the other teams in the FAM League this season.
He admitted that it would not be an easy task to meet the club management’s target of qualifying for the Premier League 2016 season as the number of competing teams had also increased.
Nevertheless, he promised that he would help the club achieve this in his first-time involvement with the club.
“I believe that with a high level of commitment of the management and the players themselves, we can attain success this season,” said Mohd Nizam.
The team which receive the support of low-cost carrier, AirAsia, have been placed in Group B of the FAM League with eight other teams.
They are Melaka United, Harimau Muda C, MOF FC, MISC-MIFA, Kedah United, Johor Darul Ta’zim III, Ipoh FA and Klang Valley’s Young Fighters FC.
The 10 teams in Group A are Perlis, PBAPP FC and Sungai Ara FC (both from Penang), Hanelang FC (Terengganu), Real Mulia FC, UKM FC and Felcra FC (Kuala Lumpur), Megah Murni FC (Selangor), Penjara FC (Negeri Sembilan) and Shahzan Muda FC (Pahang). – Bernama
