PASIR PUTEH – The Marine Operations Force (MOF) seized 1,210 boxes of firecrackers and fireworks worth RM30,000 during a raid at a vacant house in Kampung Chenggal Batu here yesterday.
Its Pengkalan Kubur base commanding officer, ASP Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said the raiding team stumbled on some 18 types of the illegal items at the house about 5pm.
“The firecrackers and fireworks were believed to have been smuggled from a neighbouring country to be marketed in the Pasir Puteh area following the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri at the end of the month,” he told reporters at the Tok Bali MOF office here today.
He said the syndicate smuggling the contraband had been using the sea route to smuggle the items into the state.
“Prior to this, the smugglers had been using the land route by crossing the Golok River on the Malaysia-Thailand border in Kelantan,” he said, adding that the case was handed over to the police for the next course of action. – BERNAMA
