Moderate Earthquake Hits Japan’s Ryukyu Islands

KUALA LUMPUR – A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale struck southeast of Ryukyu Islands, Japan at 8.43am today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

In a statement, it said the quake’s epicentre was 279km southwest of Naha, Japan and 2,160km northeast of Kudat, Sabah.

The tremblor did not pose any tsunami threat, it added. – BERNAMA
