KEMAMAN – The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (MOA) will conduct thorough surveys to determine the form of assistance to be provided to farmers and breeders of crops and livestock affected by the hot and dry weather which has swept the country of late.
Its minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said it was a short-term measure to assist farmers and breeders to cope with losses during the period.
“We have received reports from around the country about the losses incurred by farmers and breeders whose crops and livestock have died due to the hot weather caused by the El Nino phenomenon.
“At the moment we have instructed various agencies to survey the amount of losses suffered by the farmers and breeders, and we will determine whether the aid to be granted will be from the emergency or disaster funds under the ministry,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after opening the Transformation of Young Persons Carnival and launching of the Sado Hybrid Cattle Husbandry Practices at the Kemaman Waterfront here, today. – BERNAMA
