KUALA LUMPUR – Nilai Velodrome in Negeri Sembilan has been picked as venue of the 2018 Asian Cycling Championships (ACC) instead of Rakyat Velodrome in Ipoh, which has not organised international races in decades.
Following the change of venue, the Perak Cycling Association (PCA) withdrew as organiser of the 2018 ACC, said Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) president Datuk Abu Samah Abd Wahab in a press statement today.
Abu Samah said the MNCF has taken over as the organiser of the 2018 ACC.
“PCA president Datuk Amarjit Singh believed that making Rakyat Velodrome as the venue of the 2018 ACC will put it on the international stage.
“However, the Exco members feel that it will be better to make Nilai Velodrome as the venue of the 2018 ACC in line with its status as a world class indoor velodrome,” he added.
Malaysia was awarded as the host of the 2018 ACC by the ACC executive committee in a meeting in Doha, Qatar.
This followed the withdrawal of Thailand and South Korea. – BERNAMA
