SERDANG – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) made a mercy flight today, to ferry a baby girl, Nur Shaurah Shahril Nizam, who is suffering from heart complications, from Kota Bharu to the Serdang Hospital here for an immediate surgery.
The one-month-old baby was accompanied by her mother Dr Hazura Hamzah, Dr Nik Shahrina Nik Ahmad Ariff, a medical officer from Kota Bahru’s Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital, and two nurses.
The Agusta Westland AW139 helicopter flown by Lieutenant Commander Maritime Mohd Ikmal Ridzuan, assisted by Lieutenant Commander Maritime Mohamad Zali Yusoff and Petty Officer Sudin Appe, left the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport at 9.45am and arrived at the hospital here at 11.40am.
MMEA in a statement said three oxygen tanks and two bags of emergency equipment were brought together to make sure the infant was safe and secure throughout the flight.
“The patient needs mechanical ventilation to help her breathe as well as intensive care from doctor and nurses throughout the flight,” it said. – BERNAMA
