KUANTAN – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) was engaged in a mercy flight today, to ferry a chef suffering from chronic appendix from Pulau Tioman to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital here.

MMEA Eastern Maritime Region enforcement chief, First Admiral Mamu Sadi Alee said Noor Herayani Zakiria, 28, from Kampung Tekek needed immediate surgery to prevent complications of peritonitis.

He said a medical officer at the Tekek Health Clinic, Dr Jamil Aizuddin Junaidi, confirmed that the woman was receiving treatment from 11.30pm yesterday.

“The clinic sought help from MMEA and an Agusta AW139 helicopter from Subang Maritime Air Station was despatched to Kampung Tekek to pick up the patient,” he told reporters here Tuesday.

The mercy flight team comprising Royal Malaysian Air Force helicopter pilot Captain Shamsul Ehsan Alwi, co-pilot Lieutenant Commander Maritime Azizi Zalkepeli @ Zulkifli as well as aircrew Sudin Appe and Supiyan Solomon arrived at the Kuantan Municipal Council Field 4 here at 2.45pm.

Noor Herayani was accompanied by husband, Azri Alias, 28, a medical officer and a nurse from the health clinic in the flight from Pulau Tioman which took off at 2pm, and took quite a while to reach Kuantan due to extreme windy conditions. – BERNAMA
