GEORGE TOWN – Six Indonesian fishermen were detained for encroaching and
conducting fishing activities in Malaysian waters yesterday.
The six fishermen, including the skipper, aged between 22 and 26, were
detained by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at about 5 pm 48
nautical miles south-west of Pulau Kendi.
Penang MMEA Maritime 2 director Kamaruszaman Abu Hassan said a MMEA team
spotted a boat, with no registration number, acting suspiciously, and when
approached none of the six people onboard could produce their identification
The MMEA team also seized their boat, fishing equipment and 50kg of marine
catch, he added.
