KUALA LUMPUR — Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia targets its new compact sports-utility vehicle (SUV), ASX, to account for 16 per cent of total vehicle sales this year.
Its Chief Executive Officer, Tetsuya Oda said the ASX had risen to become one of the top three best-selling SUVs in its segment, with a 13 per cent market share compared with a share of 3-4 per cent last year.
“We are collaborating with Tan Chong Motor as the assembler for this model, with a RM2.0 million investment in their factory.
“We are targeting to sell around 400 units a month of this new model,” he told Bernama after the introduction of ASX Designer Edition here, today.
Mitsubishi hopes to sell around 14,500 units this year.
According to Oda, the demand for compact SUVs was increasing slowly as there were many new models in this segment.
In his speech earlier, he said that the Mitsubishi ASX had captured the hearts of Malaysians with over 2,200 satisfied new owners since February this year. – BERNAMA
