MIRI – Police detained a man yesterday for allegedly beating up his wife after she repeatedly asked him why he did not come home for several days.
Miri police chief ACP Khoo Leng Huat in a statement here today said the suspect aged 26 was believed to have assaulted his 24-year-old wife at 11.30am the same day.
“It started when the victim kept asking her husband why he did not come home for several days and why the car he was driving was involved in an accident. The suspect became incensed and started kicking things and smashed a table.”
After the incident, Khoo said, the man brought his wife to a clinic but told her to lie to the doctor that her bruises were caused by a fall.
“The victim could no longer tolerate her husband’s constant abusive behaviour and lodged a police report. We will apply for a remand order on him today,” he added.
In a separate case, a 32-year-old man was detained on suspicion of outraging the modesty of a 34-year-old mother at a house in Bandar Baru Permyjaya at 2am yesterday.
Khoo said the suspect in a drunken state had allegedly entered the room where the woman was sleeping with her children. Her husband was away at the time.
He said the victim who recognised the suspect as her neighbour’s friend, ordered him to get out of the room. – BERNAMA
