JASIN – The Melaka branch of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) seized goods worth more than RM3.2 million in 413 cases since Jan 1 this year.
Melaka KPDNKK director, Jaiya Abu said of the total, about RM1.09 million involved seizures under the Direct Sales and Anti-Pyramid Scheme 1993; Copyright Act 1987 (RM928,817.60) and the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 (RM842,767.31).
Apart from those, there were cases under the Supply Control Act 1961 (RM329,453.96); Price Control Act and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (RM39,617.50); Weights and Measures Act 1972 (RM13,950); and the Consumer Protection Act 1999 (RM172.80).
“The highest case recorded during this period was under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 involving fraud rates by unscrupulous traders with a total of 142 cases, while the lowest involved three cases under the Direct Sales and Anti-Pyramid Scheme 1993,” said Jaiya.
He was speaking to reporters after the Festive Season Price Control Scheme for Deepavali 2016 at a hypermarket here today.
