MH17: Last Crew Member Laid To Rest

KLANG – The atmosphere was one that was bittersweet as the remains of the last MH17 crew member Shaikh Mohd Noor Shaikh Mahmood, 44, was safely buried at the Kampung Jawa muslim cemetery, here at 12.30pm today.

About 500 people including around 50 crew members in uniform attended the funeral ceremony.

The hearse carrying Shaikh Mohd Noor’s remains arrived at the Sultan Suleiman Royal Mosque at about 10.30am and the casket was taken out from the hearse and carried with full honour by army pallbearers from the 8th Royal Malay Regiment before it was handed over to MAS crew members at the mosque entrance to be carried inside for the “Solat Jenazah”.

Chief steward Erwan Ahmat said they had been preparing for the ceremony since Monday.

The remains was later taken to the cemetery nearby to be laid to rest.

The burial ceremony which was coordinated by Army officers and personnel from the 11th Brigade also saw family and friends taking turn to help bury the deceased. – The New Straits Times
