KUALA LUMPUR – The Merdeka #QuranHour programme tonight is a special event that could elevate the spiritual development of the Muslims in the country, said Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad.
She said the spiritual development must go hand-in-hand with the economic and social developments as being enjoyed by the people in the country after independence.
“The recitation of the Quran, in particular Surah Yasin, which the meaning was explained by ustaz, has made us closer to Allah – our Creator.
“It is a very special (programme) not just for the Muslims but also to non-Muslims. They come to see what the Muslims are doing and from the recitation, it is clear that Quran is not just for the Muslims,” she told reporters after the programme at Dataran Merdeka here.
Sharifah Zarah also said the programme could be expanded via the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) to attract more parties to collaborate in organising the event in future.
The Merdeka #QuranHour is the first of its kind being co-organised by the KKMM Merdeka Secretariat and Yayasan Warisan Ummah Ikhlas in conjunction with the 2017 National Day celebration.
