KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Medical Relief Society (MERCY Malaysia) will be carrying out a long-term aid mission to Syria for three years beginning this November.
Its president Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus said the programme included medical assistance, food and construction of clinics at the refugee camps in Syria.
“Previously, MERCY Malaysia had carried out a short-term programme of between six months and a year, but looking at the current situation in Syria, we take the initiative to extend the mission to three years,” he told reporters, here, today.
Therefore, he said, an allocation of RM51 million was needed to ensure the success of the aid mission programme.
“The prolonged crisis in Syria is getting worse but we will continue our effort to get the support of all parties as well as to raise awareness on the importance of providing humanitarian assistance,” he said.
