PETALING JAYA: Mercy Malaysia president Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal has been elected as the new chair of the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA) during its 16th General Assembly in Geneva recently.
This is the first time that the chair position is being held by a representative of an NGO from a non-Western country since the global network of NGOs was founded in 1962.
This also means that Mercy Malaysia will be a permanent member of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC), the highest policy-making and direction setting body in the international humanitarian world.
“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and wish to extend my sincere thanks for the hard work and contribution that has been done over the years in Mercy Malaysia. It is indeed a great step forward for our country and Mercy Malaysia.
“I am honoured yet greatly humbled to take on the chair position and will endeavour to effectively execute my role and support the priority objectives of the International Council of Voluntary Agencies to the best of my abilitiesâ€, said Dr Faizal.
