KUALA LUMPUR: The telemovie ‘Menunggu Hujan Teduh’ was named as the best work at the climax of the P.Ramlee Tribute Awards 2014 here Sunday night.
Telling the story of Rahman, a retiree who decides to return to his village with his wife Habibah to settle down and start a new life, the telemovie brought home a trophy and cash prize of RM10,000.
Its director Azma Aizal Yusoof also won the best director award and took home a trophy and a cash prize of RM10,000.
The best actor category was won by Zaidi Omar through his performance in the same telemovie while the best actress award went to Fauziah Datuk Ahmad Daud for her role in ‘Seteguh Kasih Ibunda’.
The awards ceremony, which was broadcast live on TV1 from Auditorium Perdana, Angkasapuri here, was also attended by Ministry of Communications and Multimedia secretary-general, Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad.
Meanwhile, Mariani Ismail was given the Malay Film Acting Personality award for her contributions to the local industry over five decades.
The special jury award (Jiwa P.Ramlee) was given to Zul Huzaimy for his directorial role in ‘Mengapaku Diseksa’, while the special jury award (Pemikiran P.Ramlee) was given to Mohd Fahmi Sarindi for the telemovie ‘Demi Waktu Mahani’.
The list of actors who also received awards are Izara Aishah (best supporting actress); Azhan Rani (best supporting actor); Zakaria Yusof (best special appearance); Mazelan Manan (best script); Azeli Mohammad (best cinematography).
The P.Ramlee Tribute Awards organised by Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and Utusan Group in collaboration with Suhan Movies & Trading Sdn Bhd was held for the second time, recognising 13 telemovies.
The selection of the best telemovies among those televised in the ‘Tribute P.Ramlee’ slot on TV1 was done through an evaluation by professional jury members and votes from viewers.
The 13 telemovies competing for nine award categories at the event were ‘Menunggu Hujan Teduh’ directed by Izma Aizal Yusoof; ‘Seteguh Kasih Ibunda’ (Osman Ali); Cinta Kedua (Jamal Khan); ‘Nak Kahwin’ (Nizam Zakaria); ‘Mengapaku Diseksa (Zul Huzaimy); Kasih Antara Kita (Ismail Yaacob); Mahabbah Rindu (Bade Hj. Azmi) dan Jeritan Batinku (Michael Ang); Apa Guna Berjanji (Datin Paduka Shuhaimi Baba); Kalau Itu Takdirnya (Armie Maziah); Engkau Laksana Bulan (Eirma Fatima); Apabila Kau Tersenyum (Kamaruddin Ambak) and Demi Waktu Mahani (Mohd Fahmi Sarindi).
