KUALA SELANGOR: A woman, who police said was suffering from mental illness, was found dead in a river near the Pasir Penambang Jetty here, in an apparent suicide.
Fire fighters scooped the 55-year-old woman’s body out of the water after a distress call was received at about 9.15am Thursday. They arrived at the scene 15 minutes later.
Kuala Selangor OCPD Supt Ruslan Abdullah said the woman had left her house at Taman Sri Sekinchan, Sekinchan, at about 8am while her 59-year-old husband was taking a bath.
“She drove off in her husband’s Mercedes-Benz. Her 31-year-old son went looking for her and received information from friends that the car was found on a bridge in Pasir Penambang.
“Her husband and son confirmed that she was suffering from a mental disorder and received treatment from a private clinic in Petaling Jaya.
“Her last treatment was on the day before she died,” he explained.
Supt Ruslan said the woman had insomnia, and had told her son that there was no point to continue living because she had not been sleeping for a long time.
Police have ruled out foul play in her death as there were no physical injuries found on her.
“We believe that she had jumped into the river to commit suicide,” said Supt Ruslan.
