PEKAN: Individuals found suffering from mental illness in Pahang in the first six months of this year are on the rise compared to the whole of last year.
Findings of a study on Depression Anxiety, Stress Scale (DASS) last year revealed 103 out of the 2,145 individuals who underwent medical screening were diagnosed with mental illness.
However Pahang Health Department director Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar said 168 mental patients were diagnosed out of 5,939 individuals who went for the screening in the first six months of this year.
He disclosed this to Bernama when attending the state level World Heartâ€™s Day and World Mental Health Day celebration here yesterday.
Those diagnosed with very bad stress level were referred to the health clinic or psychiatrists for further treatment while cases categorised as at low or moderate levels were given intervention in the community by health personnel, he said. â€“BERNAMA
