MELAKA – The Melaka United team, which is playing in the FAM League, must be consistent throughout the season to ensure its mission to qualify for the Premier League next year is achieved.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, who is also the Melaka United Football Association president, said its failure to qualify for the Premier League last season, must be a lesson to strengthen the team.
“We were great during the early part of the season last year but we became complacent. We were inconsistent and also failed to maintain our good momentum to the end of the season and this must be overcome this season,” he told Bernama, here.
He believes new coach Mat Zan Mat Aris would draw up the best strategy for the Melaka United squad to realise the dream of qualifying for the Premier League.
In the FAM League this season, Melaka United are drawn in Group B with eight other teams including two young teams, namely, Harimau Muda C (under-19) and Johor Darul Ta’zim 111 (under-23).
Melaka United trounced Felcra 3-1 in a pre-season friendly match at the Hang Tuah Stadium, here, yesterday evening.
