MELAKA – The Melaka government will receive 40 new electric buses in stages, with five of them scheduled to arrive by end of the year.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the electric bus was part of the initiative under the 2015 Budget.
“The buses have been tested and we are satisfied with its performance. These electric buses will replace the existing buses gradually,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Earlier, he presented Deepavali contributions to 150 senior citizens and people with disabilities at a programme organised by the Welfare Association of Wives of Melaka Barisan Nasional Elected Representatives.
Each recipient received RM100 and a food hamper sponsored by Mamee, Double Decker (M) Bhd and Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd.
Meanwhile, Idris, who is also the President of the World Assembly of Youth, congratulated Malaysia on it being elected as one of the five non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York, Thursday. – Bernama
