MELAKA – A Melaka Road Transport Department (RTD) enforcement assistant today pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to a charge of accepting RM900 as bribe from a driving school mediator last year.
Asbudi Ali, 43, from the Melaka RTD Examination Unit allegedly received the bribe from Nur Farhana Abdul Malek, a mediator of Institut Memandu Zapcity Sdn Bhd, as an inducement to ensure that four students of the school passed their driving test.
The accused is charged with committing the offence at the Merlimau Maybank branch, Jalan Debunga, near Jasin here at about 12.35 pm on March 4, last year.
Asbudi is charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 punishable under Section 24 of the same act which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher if convicted.
Judge Amran Jantan allowed bail at RM2,000 with one surety and set Feb 24 for mention of the case and for the accused to appoint a lawyer.
The prosecution was led by MACC deputy prosecuting officer Mohd Fauzi Shadollah while the accused was not represented. – BERNAMA
