MELAKA – The 2nd Melaka River International Marathon to be held on Dec 20 is expected to attract about 6,000 local and foreign participants, including from Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore.
State Exco for Housing, Local Government and Environment Datuk Ismail Othman said the Marathon would be held in conjunction with the Melaka International River Festival 2015 which features 13 categories comprising the 42km full marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km and 5km races that start at A’Famosa in Banda Hilir, here.
Ismail said all categories contested are open to all participants above 13 years while entry fee range from RM40 to RM90.
“So far we have received about 2,000 entries. Online entries will remain open until Dec 19,” he told reporters here today adding that total prize money offered for the event was RM100,000.
Also present was Melaka Historic City Datuk Bandar Datuk Zainal Hussin.
The main sponsor of the event is the Ministry of Tourism and Culture while various government agencies and department would be involved in the organising aspects with the help of the Melaka Amateur Athletics Association, Malaysian Athletics Union, Garmin, Power Bar and Mamee. – BERNAMA
