MELAKA – Melaka Hospital aims to collect 30,000 units of blood bags through donation drives organised by various government agencies, private sector and non-governmental organisations this year.
Its blood bank unit head, Dr Noramiza Mat Amin said the hospital managed to collect more than 7,000 units of blood bags in the first three months of this year.
“Usually, every month we managed to collect about 2,500 units of blood bags and our target this year is achievable as last year we managed to collect 30,210 units of blood bags through the same approach.
“However, public awareness on donating blood should be carried out continuously to inculcate positive values apart from solving the shortage of blood supplies in hospital,” she told Bernama here today.
Earlier, she attended a blood donation drive in conjunction with the 210th Police Day celebrations in Ayer Keroh, which was officiated by Melaka police chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan and attended by Melaka Health director Datuk Dr Ghazali Othman.
The drive today set its target to collect 180 units of blood bags from police personnel and members of the public as blood donors and as of noon 60 donors had already fulfilled their social responsibilities by donating blood. – BERNAMA
