MELAKA – The media is the most effective medium to create blood donation public awareness in tandem with the latest technology development.
Melaka Hospital Blood Fund Unit head Dr Noramiza Mat Amin said the campaign through the media, which serves as an information channel should be optimised to prevent the shortage of blood supply and, for which, an average of 500 to 600 blood bags weekly are required at the Melaka Hospital to meet demands.
“Hence the proactive action of media practitioners in disseminating the importance of donating blood can actually save the lives of others besides meeting such demands,” she told Bernama here today.
She said both the traditional and new media was a vital factor in calling on more people to donate blood and the hospital was ready to cooperate with the media to realise such efforts.
Melaka Hospital faced shortage of blood supply last Hari Raya Aidilfitri due to the lack of donors but the type ‘O’ blood supply has stablised at present following a campaign being conducted by the media in the state. – BERNAMA
