KUANTAN – The daughter of a meat supplier is among four students in the country to receive the Kijang Emas Scholarship, the highest awarded by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), to pursue her studies in any university in the world.
Hajar Nur Asyiqin Abdul Zubir, 18, received the scholarship after getting 9A+ in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination as well as passing the stringent three-day interview process.
“I am now studying at Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan, taking my A levels, and with luck, will go on to the prestigious Oxford University which has produced many leaders.
“I want to further my studies in chemistry and become an expert to help the nation when I graduate,” she told reporters when met at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abdul Rahman Talib (SMART) here today.
The youngest of five siblings said getting the Kijang Emas Scholarship was not easy as she had to compete with thousands of applicants.
Meanwhile, SMART principal, Bahtiar Sanusi said Hajar Nur Asyiqin’s achievements made the school proud as she was its first student and from the state to be awarded the scholarship. – BERNAMA
