Regarding the viral posting on social media about glass shards found in a customer’s milkshake, McDonald’s has issued a statement clarifying that the incident was a mistake of their staff member.
The incident, which reportedly happened on Monday (12th September) night, took place at the Pengkalan Station 18 outlet in Ipoh.
The statement reads:
Based on our ongoing investigations into the “ice blended” incident, we would like to clarify that the foreign object found in the drink is a broken hard plastic material from a McCafe blender lid, and not glass shards as was reported by other parties earlier.
We regret this incident and acknowledge there was a lapse in the execution of our standard operating procedure at this particular restaurant. Additionally, we have taken the necessary corrective action to ensure such incidents do not happen again.
In this particular incident, our staff had brought the customer to the hospital immediately to receive medical attention. We have been made to understand that the customer is currently recovering and we are in communication with the customer through her family to monitor her progress.
We wish to reiterate that the safety and well-being of our customers are our top priority. We also wish to assure our customers that we do not compromise on our values and will continue to reinforce all standard operating procedures in our restaurants.
