KUALA LUMPUR – Maybank stunned 2015 Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) champion Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) 5-3 in their TNB Cup first leg semifinal at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, here tonight.

“The boys worked very hard…they managed a 100 percent penalty corner conversion today. In the last two quarters, our defence was good. Our goal keeper (Imran Butt) and B. Namasivayam thwarted many THT attacks,” said Maybank coach S. Vellapan.

Vellapan hoped his boys would be able to keep the winning momentum in the second leg on Thursday.

Maybank opened accounts in the 15th minute through their import Muhammad Irfan from Pakistan from a penalty corner but THT were level two minutes later when Faizal Saari struck from a penalty corner.

Maybank skipper Hafifihafiz Hanafi restored the lead through a penalty stroke in the 23rd minute before Muhammad Irfan extended the lead from a penalty corner in the 27th minute.
