KUALA LUMPUR – A 22-year-old “Mat rempit”, whose wife is in confinement with their second child, broke down in the Traffic Court here today when pleading for leniency .
Muhammad Putra Zulfaiz Zaidi, who is a mechanic, pleaded guilty to a charge of riding his motorcycle in a reckless and dangerous early today.
“I am the sole breadwinner of the family. My wife is in confinement after giving birth to our second child, who is only 20 days old. I apologise for the wrong I did,” he said in between sobs.
Magistrate Noorul Fhaiez Mohd Nayan sentenced him to two days’ jail and fine of RM5,500, in default two months’ jail, for the offence. He also lost his eligibility to own or apply for a driving licence for two years.
Muhammad Putra Zulfaiz was charged with committing the offence at 1.50 am at Jalan Raja Laut today. He paid the fine.
In the same court, a salesman, Liew Chee Hong, 32, was fined RM1,800, in default two months’ jail, after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The offence was committed at 5 pm on Jalan Syed Putra here last Sept 10. The prosecution was conducted by prosecuting officer Inspector Hashimah Hashim.- BERNAMA
