KUALA LUMPUR – Marriage seems to have injected a new spirit in Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games gold medallist, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli to continue to excel in his sport.
Muhammad Ziyad when met at his wedding reception here today, said the presence of wife Zafirah Md Nasir in his life now would spur him to achieve more by creating new records in the shot put F20 category (learning disability).
“As a husband, I will have a bigger responsibility and I will need to focus on both my family and career. I need to work hard and clinch more success after this for my family.
“I am thankful to both our families for organising this wedding reception,” he told reporters after the bersanding ceremony held at Dewan Bunga Raya, Campbell Complex, here.
Also present at the reception were Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and his wife Nori Tun Abdullah, and National Sports Council director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail.
Zafirah, meanwhile, said she wanted Muhammad Ziyad to continue to perform well in his field and to focus on his training and career as a national athlete.
“I will always support his sporting career and I hope Ziyad will continue to achieve success for the country. His success at Rio was a start and I am confident he will do better in future,” said Zafirah, 26.
Adding cheer to the couple’s wedding reception was the presence of Rio Paralympics gold medallists Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi in the sprint T36 category (cerebral palsy) and Abdul Latif Romly in the long jump T20 category, as well as bronze medallist Siti Noor Radiah Ismail (in the long jump T20 category) and her coach. – BERNAMA
