JOHOR BAHARU – Marine Police raided a jetty in Kampung Pendas, Gelang Patah, yesterday and prevented 21,600 litres of tyre oil from being smuggled out of the country.
They arrested nine people and detained a tanker lorry and a trawler boat in the incident at 2.10 am, Region Two Marine Police commander ACP Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said today.
He said the oil was being transferred from the lorry to the boat when the police arrived at the private jetty which was neither gazetted nor licensed for transfer of oil.
The nine people comprised six crew of the boat, all of them Indonesian nationals, the driver of the lorry and two men believed to have been manning the jetty, he said in a statement.
He said all of them and the seized lorry, boat and oil were brought to the Region Two Marine Police base in Tampoi and handed over to the Customs Department. – BERNAMA
