Marine Police Foil Attempt To Smuggle Diesel Worth RM12,000

PASIR PUTEH – The Region Three Marine Operations Force (MOF) foiled an attempt to smuggle 6,900 litres of diesel worth RM12,000 out of the country in a cargo boat at the Semerak Canal, Tok Bali here yesterday.

Commanding Officer Insp Nik Ali Nik Mat said in the raid at 11am yesterday, the MOF detained 14 Vietnamese crew and skipper together with the cargo boat worth RM1.2 million.

“Checks conducted by seven MOF personnel found that the crew and skipper aged between 15 and 65 failed to show valid documents,” he told reporters at the MOF Base in Tok Bali, here last night.

Nik Ali said the diesel which were kept in 230 barrels were believed to have been bought in Kemaman, Terengganu to be sold either in Thailand or Vietnam.

He said checks also found a large amount of fresh squid believed to have been bought from local fishermen to be sold in Vietnam at large profits. – BERNAMA
