JOHOR BAHRU – Region Two Marine Operations Force detained 25 illegal immigrants for trying to sneak out of the country via a secret passage at Pasir Logok Beach, Kuala Sedili Besar near Kota Tinggi, last night.
Its commander, ACP Paul Khiu Khon Chiang said all the immigrants were arrested in ‘Ops Landai’ raid at about 11.50pm, based on information from the public.
“During the raid, they were hiding in the forest waiting for boats to take them home to Indonesia,” he said in a statement here, today.
All the immigrants were aged between 19 to 50 years and failed to produce valid identification documents.
Paul said all of them were taken to Bandar Penawar Police Station, Kota Tinggi for further investigation.
They will be investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007 and the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Amendment 2012). – BERNAMA
