KANGAR – Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) plans to produce 40,000 new entrepreneurs from among Bumiputeras by 2015.
The Rural and Regional Development Ministry’s Deputy Secretary General (Development) Datuk Ahmad Zubir Abdul Ghani said the plan had been in place since comprehensive programmes began in 2010.
“Mara expects the target to be achieved following the success of the programmes as well as enthusiasm of participants,” he added.
He said this when officiating the Gegar Aspirasi Usahawan Perlis 2014 programme here today.
Also present was the Perlis state Health and Rural Development Committee chairman, Jafperi Othman.
Ahmad Zubir said Mara hoped to venture into various fields as retail,techno- entrepreneurship and manufacturing.
“For just Perlis, Mara has spent RM15.2 million to assist 139 local entrepreneurs, to strengthen their businesses. Last year, the agency handed out loans of RM19.6 million to 215 entrepreneurs.
“At the same time, MARA Perlis created 23 projects offering 339 business lots with 10 yet to be taken up,” he added.
Meanwhile, MARA Perlis director Zahari Aziz said the two-day Gegar Aspirasi Usahawan Perlis 2014 programme which began yesterday, had brought together about 3,000 entrepreneurs exhibiting products, particularly from the small medium enterprises sector. – BERNAMA
